Second Edition of Mother and Child Seminar for Midwives

The Dada Foundation-Ghana, in partnership with the Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) and Footprints Foundation, successfully organised the second edition of its flagship Mother and Child Workshop, a capacity-building training program for midwives, on July 25, 2025, held at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The first edition was in July 2021, it was a vitual seminar, themed, Empowering the Midwife for Development. A program passionately organised by the then Executive Director, Mr Haford. Topics covered were; Challenges Facing Midwifery Training and Practise in Ghana, Promoting respectful midwifery, and Medico-Legal Issues of Today. (watch excerpts of first edition)

This year’s edition featured a lecture on Compassionate Patient Care delivered by Lorna Owens, a partner of the Foundation from the United States. Ms. Owens, who has extensive experience in maternal and child healthcare across Congo and Jamaica, shared practical insights and global best practices to inspire participants in strengthening the quality of care delivered to mothers and newborns in Ghana.

As part of the event, President of the GRMA, emphasized the importance of continuous professional training for midwives. She noted that workshops of this nature are crucial to reducing maternal mortality rates, which remain a pressing concern in Ghana and across Africa.

The program was moderated by Mrs. Priscilla Mansa Fynn, Programs Director of the Dada Foundation, who facilitated interactive sessions, including a Q&A and networking segment that allowed midwives to share experiences, exchange ideas, and explore collaborative solutions to challenges faced in the field. Mr. Obed Donkor also provided a brief overview of the Foundation’s activites, vision and its commitment to advancing maternal and child health through education, advocacy, and partnerships.
